Crisis in Medio Oriente: six UE countries call for a common tax on the extra-profits of oil companies

Pressure is growing within the Unione Europea for the introduction of a common tax on the extra-profits of oil companies. According to what has been reported in the last few hours, six member countries of the UE have joined forces to request a coordinated intervention aimed at taxing the exceptional gains made by energy giants in the context of the crisis in Medio Oriente. Among the promoters of the initiative are the Finance ministers of Germania, Italia, Austria, Polonia and Portogallo, joined by an additional Member State. The proposal aims to redistribute part of the record profits accumulated by the sector due to geopolitical instability, which has caused a significant surge in prices.
